The telecommunications provider Verizon (www.verizon.com) announced Wednesday that construction of a campus of massive data center probably will be located in Somerset, New York, on Lake Ontario, according to a report of the Data Center knowledge.
The company revealed details of the $ 500 million, 900,000 square foot facility, which will be home for $ 3.4 billion in equipment over its useful life of 20 years.
Verizon also said that along with investments in land, utilities and other costs, the campus data center will cost a total of $ 4.5 billion.
The company has yet to confirm Somerset as the location of the site, the disclosure that has bought some properties in other states.
Verizon met with Somerset Zoning officials this week when company executives revealed more details about the project.
This also applies for tax incentives Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, which could save the company 330 million U.S. dollars in the span of 20-year contract.
It also plans to meet the grants from the Empire State Development Corporation.
The company plans to build three data centers of two floors in the 17-acre property owned by AES, with every facility that covers nearly 300,000 square feet of space.
The data center project could potentially generate 175 jobs.
Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, the data center project is expected to use free cooling all year, and hydroelectric power in the Niagara River.
The site is just 20 miles from Lockport, home to the most recent data center for Yahoo, which has a chicken coop design.
Verizon is also building a 30,000 square foot center data in the Business Park of Lubbock in Lubbock, Texas.
