Managed Service Provider Verizon Business (www.verizonbusiness.com) announced this week opened a new data center in Hong Kong Tsuen Wan.The company announced it was building the data center earlier this year. The project is part of the investment of 17 billion U.S. dollars to Verizon Communications in 2010.Support the growing demand for private client services, cloud computing, the facility marks the 15th Verizon data center has opened in Asia.The company also has data centers in Singapore, Japan and Australia.The 9,842 meters square of Hong Kong data center has a choice of three cabinet options, including standard cabinets optional redundant transfers, premium cabinets and servers to blade servers high cell density, medium and enclosures for smaller installations .“Driven largely by general economic prosperity, the Asia-Pacific region is leading the world to adopt cloud computing,” says Andrew Dobbins, regional vice president Asia-Pacific, Verizon Business. “Cloud computing offers companies significant advantages over traditional IT models, and helps speed time to market and improve productivity.”Verizon said that while plans to grow its storage business in the coming year, cloud computing has shown significant growth in the Asia-Pacific region.As previously announced, Verizon is upgrading its data centers worldwide to support its Information as a set of services.The Hong Kong data center is the most advanced yet built by the company in the Pacific Rim, which connects directly to the Verizon global IP network to reduce latency.In addition, Verizon announced this week plans to build a center of 900,000 square feet of data, potentially, in Somerset, New York.
