MUNICH, Germany – Parallels, a worldwide leader in virtualization solutions for Mac, has announced support for Google Chrome as a guest operating system running on Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac, the latest version of the award winning solution that enables Mac users to run applications they need through multiple platforms. This development is based on Parallels track record of constant innovation to meet changing customer needs, which has led to the first desktop virtualization, such as seamless integration of Windows and Mac operating systems and direct the allocation of hardware resources for virtual machines.
“There is already an enormous amount of interest in the new operating system from Google, but still only in beta, so we want to make sure our customers can try on their Macs without affecting your main working environment in Mac OS X,” said Kim Johnston, Vice President of Marketing for consumers, enterprises and online at Parallels. “It is important to us that we continue to innovate to meet the needs of our customers, giving them the possibility of using the widest range of applications, whether Mac, Windows, Linux or OS Chrome.”
The ability to run Google Chrome OS in Parallels Desktop for Mac was shown during the presentations taking place at the Business Center of OS X at CeBIT, and the Parallels booth (A20, Hall 2) during the five-day event. There will also be introductory sessions Parallels Server for Mac Bare Metal Edition, the first solution of bare metal hypervisor for Apple’s Xserve, which launched last week.
Parallels Server for Mac Bare Metal Edition is based on the Parallels virtualization market leader in the portfolio including the resolution of existing server virtualization, Parallels Server for Mac, released in June 2008. Parallels Server for Mac brought virtualization to the Apple Xserve for the first time, allowing organizations to standardize on the Mac platform and integrate into existing IT infrastructure. This powerful new product with “Bare Metal” architecture offers the speed and the ability to migrate systems without going totally online (“hot” migration), while the inclusion of Parallels Virtual Automation provides comprehensive management tools monitoring and maintenance of the virtual environment.
The innovative leader in German advertising agency Jung von Matt is among the early adopters of Parallels Server for Mac Bare Metal Edition, using the solution to move its collaboration software in virtual machines.
“In order to consolidate our server landscape and move multiple Windows and Linux servers in virtual machines on our Mac Pro and Xserve hardware, we became one of the first original of Parallels Server for Mac,” said Stephan Budach, R & D Support in major German advertising agency Jung von Matt. “Having successfully tested beta versions of Parallels Server for Mac Bare Metal Edition, we have found significant performance improvements of this stable and mature technology. With the end of the ongoing construction, now plan to migrate our Oracle Collaboration Suite Oracle Beehive. This will sit on application servers in virtual Beehive clustered servers running Oracle Linux. ”
