Microsoft’s Cloud-Powered Container Strategy

by admin on March 8, 2010

In a speech at the University of Washington, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer last week revealed its new vision to the design and release container power cloud services vision, according to a report from Data Center Knowledge.

Ballmer highlighted the work of the company’s services “cloud computing” with the bold statement “when it comes to the cloud, we are all in.”

In his presentation, Ballmer said that 70 percent of the 40,000 people who work in Microsoft software are involved in some type of work connected with clouds.

Ballmer reiterated later in an email message to all Microsoft employees and a major advertising campaign.

Given the focus of Microsoft desktop solutions for all these years, the launch of its strategy for cloud computing surprised many industry experts.

In a report from TechCrunch, Jason Kincaid cites internal e-mail Ballmer sent to Microsoft employees in relation to the vision of the clouds.

In the e-mail, Ballmer wrote:

My goal was to challenge people to see the cloud more broadly and understand the multidimensional nature of the transformation of clouds passing today. Other companies have defined the cloud of a close and one-dimensional. Although these companies provide some interesting components, Microsoft is unique in offering a wide range of capabilities of clouds that bring increasing value to our customers.

Rich Data Center Knowledge Miller said Ballmer’s comments indicating how the Microsoft cloud containers can be equipped with Azure technology.

From a data center perspective, one of the most interesting comments came during Ballmer question and answer session with students, which hinted that Microsoft may offer a container filled with Azure technology as a product for on-site installation.

“When you walk outside and see one of these containers would be fine with me if we have to dump one in each country or sell part of some people who want to implement them,” said Ballmer.

In a Journal report virtualization, compared Strukhoff new approach Roger Ballmer on cloud strategy shift in focus to Bill Gates’s predecessor to the Internet and worldwide Web, several years ago, when the company was competing with Netscape’s market share for Internet browsers.

enthusiasm] [Ballmer reminded, of course, that of Bill Gates when it has completely lost a fundamental change in the industry, urged the company several years ago to focus on the Internet and worldwide web …

The company was quicker to recognize a more recent threat to its existence in the form of Google, and now called the Evil Empire looks to combat those-who-do-nothing wrong, and any other newcomers to the crystallization Cloud Computing market suddenly.

DaniWeb IT Discussion Community Ron Miller Ballmer seemed skeptical about newfound drive and deploy Microsoft’s cloud services.

Anyway, that’s really a surprising statement, and despite Ballmer often seems to be a little awkward to speak in public, I’m pretty sure he does not say things like this without prior discussion (at least I hope) . If this is true, means a large percentage of attention by the software giant has completely changed, an adaptation of major cultural and business, the likes of which we might never have seen before in the technology industry …

I can see how Microsoft could commit to the cloud for all, but business users, many of whom do not want to live in the cloud, at least not yet, and probably not at all …

Consumers will be an easier sale, and the phone and gaming markets are no brainers. Many of us are accustomed to using online services today. Whether you use Microsoft or not remains to be seen, but if Ballmer is to be truthful, we may have seen a glimpse of a future of Microsoft and lives in the cloud. It’s so hard to believe that a company that has feasted on the desktop for so long it is able to complete the face.
