Equinix Builds Its Fourth Data Center

by admin on August 27, 2009

Located close to the company’s existing LA3 center in El Segundo, the new LA4 information center spans 177,000 sq. feet and will include about three thousand cupboards at full build out.  The facility will meet the clamor for premium information center co location and network exchange services in the LA area from firms in the entertainment and digital media sectors.  Equinix invested $95 million to build out the 1st segment of the center.

The facility will support eight hundred cupboards and more than 10,000 sq. feet of IBXflex Space, which is designed for consumers looking for office space in the same info center as their apparatus deployment. The new LA4 center is firmly linked to Equinix’s 3 other LA area IBX centers, including its 2 downtown LA centers, thru the Equinix IBXLink service.

IBXLink provides redundant fiber links that permit customers connect to one another across the 4 centers as if they were found in the same building. As a consequence, buyers in the new LA4 center will have direct access to the more than sixty carriers and network services providers operating in Equinix’s existing LA area centers. The new info center is a part of Equinix’s 2009 growth program that includes enlarging the corporation’s information center footprint in 10 out of 18 markets in which it now operates. By the end of 2009, the company will have invested over $1 billion in expansions since the beginning of 2007. Most lately, Equinix acquired a 130,000 square foot info center in Frankfurt, Germany, and the up to date build out of the 3rd part of its New York-4 World Business Exchange info center in Secaucus, New Jersey.
