70% of Firms Using Cloud Services Plan to Move More Apps to the Cloud

Seven out of ten companies currently using the cloud-based services plan to move additional applications to the clouds, and over the next 12 months, says a new study of e-mail management company Mimecast (www.mimecast.com ).

The study, released Thursday, also counters the assumption that concerns over security and integration prevent companies adopting the cloud. While security and integration are clearly larger user fears about cloud computing, have not deterred companies from the application of cloud-based applications in your corporate infrastructure, and, once installed, the results suggest great satisfaction with cloud computing.

“This research shows that once the cloud business applications based on experience, their fears about integration, reliability and cost are immediately alleviated,” Mimecast CEO Peter Bauer said in a statement. “The survey results point to a bright future for cloud computing, companies increasingly seek to create a cloud of efficient and agile organization.”

Mimecast offers a full range of SaaS based email archiving, continuity, security and control services policy. Their study examined the perception and adoption of cloud computing solutions among 565 respondents responsible for managing their organization’s IT operations and the U.S. budget and Canada in the fall of 2009. According to the survey, 70 percent of companies that already use cloud computing solutions is planning to move additional applications for the cloud, and most of them are looking for it in the next 12 months, which shows that respondents have used the cloud-based solutions, have seen their business and securities transactions, and we want to see Patten repeated in other application areas.

The study notes, however, that certain industries are adopting technologies faster than other cloud. The top three industries in the adoption of cloud computing solutions are technology (with 53 percent), financial services (40 percent) and legal (37 percent), showing that respondents in heavily regulated markets such as Legal and financial services do not share the belief that the cloud-based services make it harder to demonstrate compliance with industry regulations. In addition, the government ranks lowest in terms of adoption, with only 19 percent using the cloud-based solutions.

Among respondents who already use cloud computing solutions, email and CRM was the most valuable. A third of respondents moved the e-mail management to the cloud, 26 percent of clouds deployed CRM systems, 26 percent moved from mail file and 22 percent have moved storage functions.
